A Charming Seaside Village
Malahide
I never thought of visiting Ireland until my trip to Switzerland scheduled a layover in Dublin for 5 hours. Since I did not need a visa to exit the airport I decided to take a taxi into the closest city Malahide. A small seaside village about 20 minutes from the airport.
The taxi dropped us off right at the entrance of the village. We got ice cream as we paraded through the medieval village. I must admit it was a totally different experience than being in Switzerland. People were a lot more etiquette and welcoming. The residents greeted each other as they pass by. They would stop and offer to help when we looked lost.
Mahalide village is comprised mainly of fashion boutiques, beauty salons, florists, bakeries, restaurants, supermarket, casino a small shopping center and a variety of bars. Walking through the city center eventually led us through the Village Green, followed by a promenade to the Marina. Since it was still very cold, the boats were docked along the Marina but is surely an ideal activity in the summer through fall to explore the Irish sea. After finishing our ice cream we continued our journey to the long stretched sandy beach. It is not the most beautiful beach but strolling through the unspoiled coastline was very relaxing. It was almost time to head back we wondered through Malahide Castle gardens before we went for lunch. 3 hours later we were on a taxi back to the airport heading home.
After visiting the village and speaking to some native at immigration line, Ireland (mainly Dublin) will surely be added to my list for one of my birthdays after all I am a Pisces.
